Meet the Port & Bell Collection: Kitchen Cabinetry Inspired by Remarkable Women
4 min read
At Home Surplus, our Port & Bell cabinetry line was built to be more than a catalog of finishes and door styles. It's a tribute. Each of Port & Bell's five collections carries the name of a woman whose courage, resilience, or vision changed the world around her. Available in 12 distinct styles across five collections, our in-house kitchen cabinets combine timeless shaker-style cabinet design with premium construction, so every kitchen we help build carries a story worth telling.
The Anna Collection — Honoring Anna Zisovics-Schwartz
Anna Zisovics-Schwartz survived the Holocaust as a teenager, losing nearly her entire family before eventually immigrating to the United States, raising a family, and helping establish charities in Los Angeles. By the time of her passing in 2022, she had more than 20 descendants — what she called her ultimate revenge against those who tried to erase her family.

The Anna Collection reflects that same resilience through clean, classic shaker-style cabinets available in four finishes: Snow White, Natural Rift White Oak, Stone Gray, and Caramel Harvest. Every door features a durable painted or wood finish, soft-close doors and drawers, and construction built to handle the everyday demands of a busy kitchen.

The Harriet Collection — Honoring Harriet Tubman
Harriet Tubman escaped slavery in 1849 and returned to the South at least 13 more times, leading roughly 70 people to freedom along the Underground Railroad without ever losing a single passenger. She later served as a spy and nurse during the Civil War and spent her later years advocating for women's suffrage.

The Harriet Collection carries her legacy of accessibility and strength. Available in a soft Pearl White and a new Jade Green, these shaker-style kitchen cabinets deliver the same durable construction as the rest of the Port & Bell line at a more budget-friendly price point — an ideal choice for remodels, rental properties, or any homeowner who wants timeless style without compromise. The cool jade green finish creates a calm, refined aesthetic, blending classic design with a modern pop of color.

The Eleanor Collection — Honoring Eleanor Roosevelt
As the longest-serving First Lady in U.S. history, Eleanor Roosevelt was a tireless advocate for civil rights and for expanding opportunities for women in the workplace, and she later became the first chairperson of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights.
Each collection carries the name of a woman whose courage, resilience, or vision changed the world around her.
The Eleanor Collection offers a refined twist on classic shaker styling, with a subtle bevel inside the door frame that adds depth and sophistication. Available in Snow White and Ocean Blue, Eleanor moves effortlessly between traditional and contemporary spaces, a fitting nod to a woman who bridged eras of American history.

The Maya Collection — Honoring Maya Angelou
Author, poet, and civil rights activist Maya Angelou worked alongside leaders like Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr., and her 1969 memoir, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, remains one of the most influential works of American literature.

The Maya Collection channels that same modern, confident voice with a slim shaker profile and crisp, minimalist lines. Available in Snow White, Natural Rift White Oak, and Black Rift White Oak, Maya is designed for homeowners and designers who want a clean, contemporary look with real character.

The Grace Collection — Honoring Grace Hopper

Grace Hopper was a mathematician, computer scientist, and U.S. Navy rear admiral. After earning a BA in mathematics and physics from Vassar College and a Ph.D. in mathematics from Yale, she left her teaching post at Vassar during World War II to be sworn into the U.S. Navy Reserve. There she served on the programming staff for the Mark I, one of the earliest general-purpose electromechanical computers used during the war. She went on to help develop COBOL, an early high-level programming language still in use today, and is credited with writing the first computer manual.
The Grace Collection reflects that same clarity and precision. Finished in a crisp Snow White, these white shaker cabinets give a kitchen a bright, uncluttered foundation, the kind of blank slate that pairs just as easily with warm brass hardware as it does with matte black. A clean shaker door with slab drawer fronts keeps the look simple, and Grace is Port & Bell's most accessible collection: a fresh, modern kitchen at an entry-level price. Dovetailed plywood drawer boxes, a solid wood face frame, concealed six-way adjustable soft-close hinges, and soft-close drawer slides come standard, so the details you use every day still feel solid.
